Last year a representative of the Essex Record office gave a lecture, where it was explained that the records office have many Marconi photographs and documents in it's archives, but did not have the money to be able to catalogue and preserve these artifacts for the future.
These photographs, many on glass plates, need special protection to preserve them for the future.
The Essex Record Office has now been awarded £93,000 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for this project.
Further funding has also come from Chelmsford City Council’s Essex 2020 fund, which provided £2,000, and the Friends of Historic Essex.
A selection of more than 150,000 images at the Essex Record Office and Chelmsford Museums will be digitised and made available to the public.
