Why not tell you a few things we saw happen from the windows of Elettra House during 1970s in the Typing Pool days
In those days, opposite Elettra House, there were fields where horses used to be kept. One day, they escaped and ran riot around Westway roads. Caused havoc on those roads, as you can imagine.
Another time a convoy of army lorries happened to come to a standstill outside Elettra House. As we were all young 'ladies' then, great excitement erupted with lots of attention being paid both ways.
The one that really sticks in my mind was when the back axle of a hearse snapped, the back end collapsed AND the coffin slipped out on to the road. It was actually stuck there for quite a while until a replacement hearse came to its rescue. Oops !!
I remember a very sad day when one of those lorries carrying iron girders lost some of its load and fell on to a car, killing the occupant. Awful.
We saw several lorries overturn due to the camber of the road around the roundabout. I bet it’s still the same ??
I'm sure there were others.
